Unos requieren ocho o nueve horas diarias y otros, sin embargo, est\u00e1n perfectos descansando menos de seis. Lo cierto es que el cuerpo y la mente necesitan un periodo de reposo para recuperarse y recargar energ\u00edas, a fin de afrontar el d\u00eda a d\u00eda en las mejores condiciones posibles.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Cuando el m\u00e9dico pregunta a un paciente en consulta si duerme bien<strong>, el 50% de ellos responde que tiene dificultades para conciliar el sue\u00f1o<\/strong>. Adem\u00e1s se sabe que un 15% de la poblaci\u00f3n tiene insomnio cr\u00f3nico. A pesar de ello, s\u00f3lo el 5% acude a consulta para tratar este problema.<\/p>\n<h2>C\u00f3mo tratar el insomnio<\/h2>\n<p>Aunque en algunos casos puede ser necesario el uso de f\u00e1rmacos para favorecer el sue\u00f1o, es importante saber que las medidas no farmacol\u00f3gicas son la primera opci\u00f3n, ya que ofrecen mejores resultados a largo plazo, no generan efectos secundarios y evitan la dependencia de los hipn\u00f3ticos. Si el m\u00e9dico indica medicaci\u00f3n, la pauta de inductores del sue\u00f1o no deber\u00eda prolongarse m\u00e1s de un mes.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez que se acude a consulta con este problema el m\u00e9dico, adem\u00e1s de explorar al paciente, le hace preguntas \u00a0para saber cu\u00e1ntas horas duerme, si la falta de sue\u00f1o afecta a su vida diaria, si lleva mucho tiempo con ese problema, si hay alg\u00fan factor que considere que pueda estar precipitando esa situaci\u00f3n, si tiene antecedentes familiares o si tiene buenos h\u00e1bitos de sue\u00f1o y un estilo de vida saludable. Adem\u00e1s, es fundamental descartar s\u00edntomas de enfermedades org\u00e1nicas o trastornos psiqui\u00e1tricos asociados. Un recurso \u00fatil es que el paciente realice un <strong>diario de sue\u00f1o<\/strong> durante dos semanas, para que el especialista pueda conocer las pautas de su descanso.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez determinado el origen del insomnio, hay que tratar los factores desencadenantes lo antes posible. Entre las intervenciones m\u00e1s eficaces se incluyen la mejora de la higiene del sue\u00f1o, el aprendizaje de t\u00e9cnicas de relajaci\u00f3n, la terapia de control de est\u00edmulos (por ejemplo, evitar usar la cama para leer o ver televisi\u00f3n) y la terapia cognitiva conductual realizada por un psic\u00f3logo o psiquiatra.<\/p>\n<p>Pero hay casos en los que el tratamiento no-farmacol\u00f3gico no es suficiente y es necesario recurrir a f\u00e1rmacos inductores de sue\u00f1o, como los f\u00e1rmacos hipn\u00f3ticos (zolpidem, zopiclona, entre otros).<\/p>\n<h2>Tipos de insomnio<\/h2>\n<p>Existen diferentes tipos de insomnio en funci\u00f3n del momento en el que se produce la vigilia. Cuando la persona tarda m\u00e1s de media hora en quedarse dormida se habla de <em>Insomnio de conciliaci\u00f3n<\/em>. Se suele producir por problemas de ansiedad o trastorno bipolar. Cuando lo que ocurre es que se producen despertares frecuentes con dificultad para volver a quedarse dormido despu\u00e9s se llama <em>Insomnio de mantenimiento<\/em>. Por \u00faltimo, el <em>despertar precoz<\/em> est\u00e1 asociado a las personas mayores y a quienes padecen depresi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n se puede clasificar el insomnio en funci\u00f3n de la duraci\u00f3n. As\u00ed se habla de <em>Insomnio transitorio<\/em> cuando dura menos de una semana, de corta duraci\u00f3n cuando se produce de una a tres semanas y <em>cr\u00f3nico<\/em> cuando dura m\u00e1s de tres semanas y est\u00e1 asociado a una enfermedad f\u00edsica o psiqui\u00e1trica en la mayor\u00eda de los casos.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfTe cuesta dormir o ya no descansas como antes?<\/p>\n<p>El insomnio puede tener distintas causas y lo mejor es descubrirlas a tiempo.
